He had been a Teaching Assistant (TA) at UC Irvine for an entire school year, where he taught general chemistry, organic chemistry, and environmental science. TAs lead independent discussion and laboratory sessions, give lectures, teach students how to conduct experiments, work through problems, and hold review sessions and office hours. In addition to these duties, he was also involved in building the curriculum and exams.

Ais is also very knowledgeable in biology due to his undergraduate major in biochemistry and research experience. He's done research for 3 years in biology and chemistry laboratories so not only does he know facts out of a textbook, he also knows their significance and applicability to the real world.

He is also highly qualified to teach English and math. During college, he was a director for a tutoring organization, tutoring middle and high school students math and English on the weekends. He continued tutoring after college both in Los Angeles and abroad in China. He's worked with students of all ages, including elementary school, middle school, high school, and college.

Finally, he's a friendly and patient teacher who is not only concerned about his students' performance, but also their understanding of the material. Here are some testimonials from his students in end-of-quarter anonymous evaluations:
    Testimonials:
  • “Extremely helpful, clear at explaining concepts, very accessible and willing to make the extra effort to help students understand concepts.”
  • “Ais was very helpful as a TA. You could tell that he really wanted us to understand the concepts and succeed in the course.”
  • “He goes over the questions step by step and explains the question in detail. He also well explain the question if we don’t understand what is being asked of us.”
  • “Always willing to take questions and stressed the importance of understanding a concept rather than just giving students the answer.”
  • “He explained the lab before we started, easily approachable, and very friendly. He responded to emails quickly, too.”
  • “Professional, but helpful at the same time. Very patient and understanding.”
  • “He’s great at explaining what actually happens in the reactions. I think he really helps us engage in the chemistry aspect of lab by not just telling us what to do, but he asks us why we think we do something. It helps us learn.”
